Formerly Cimicifuga americana; Shade to light shade; rich, humusy well-drained soil; this plant and its relative Actaea racemosa are quite similar in appearance with attractive, toothed compound leaves in bushy stance that send skyward slender spikes (racemes) of pretty white flowers at a time when little is blooming in the forest; this species blooms later than racemosa; blooms Jul-Aug;  plant 2’-6’ tall; zones 4-9;  WV. ecotype.
