Sun to part shade; Dry stony calcareous soils; Similar to Allium cernuum this plant is relatively short and wispy with rounded strappy leaves but differs in its preference for stony, lime-rich soils and its dark pink-purple flowers. Leaves are flavorful as a chive substitute and the bulbs are sweet like a vidalia. Grows 10-14" tall; Blooms June to August; NC ecotype
