Cherry birch is a large tree of rich woodland coves. Provides a high-canopied bright woodland shade that is perfect for growing woodland wildflowers. The tree also provides oil or wintergreen which can be enjoyed by chewing on the young twigs, harvesting the sap or boiling the roots. Smooth, cherry-like bark gives it it’s name. Grows 60-80 feet tall. Bright yellow fall color. Fast growing but long lived. Used by many moths and butterflies as a host. Zone 3-6. VA ecotype.
