Butterfly pea is a low creeping herbaceous vine that prefers dry, gravelly or sandy, nutrient poor soils. Best grown in part shade on dry banks and low shrubby thickets. Large quarter sized pink flowers that are rather suggestive, appear from July to September. Most attractive to large bees. The vine can grow 5-6 feet long but tends to sprawl rather than climb. Zone 6-8; WV ecotype.
