Gaillardia aestivalis var. aestivalis (Lanceleaf Blanketflower)

from 2.00

Lanceleaf blanketflower is somewhat common throughout the gulf-coast states. Perennial but its cold tolerance is untested. Possibly hardy to Zone 5. This plant is very unusual in that it is rayless. A central cluster of brown-black flowers appear mid to late summer (July-October) on wispy stems in dry sandy or stony meadows. The effect is subtle but attractive especially when paired with fine textured grasses. The brown globes seem to float in the garden. Grows 1-2 feet tall. Zone 5-9; AL ecotype.
