Gonolobus suberosus (Anglepod)

Also known as (Matelea gonocarpos) this is one of our climbing milkweeds. A perennial vine that frequents moist to wet sandy woodland edges, thickets and floodplains. The vine grows 8-15 feet tall and sports bicolor yellow and brown flowers midsummer (July-September). Attracts a number of small pollinators. A large banana-like pod follows flowering and hangs on the plant until it splits and disperses fluffy seeds much like common milkweed. Attractive, odd, and unusual. Zone 6-9. VA ecotype.
