This small summer blooming wildflower inhabits very dry woodlands, clearings, ledges and woods-edges. Preference is for dry, well-drained, woodsy soil and part or dappled shade. The leaves hug the ground but the flower stalk rises to 8-10 inches off the ground from June to July with yellow dandelion-like flowers. The leaves are strongly patterned with red veins on a Green-grey leaf. This pattern often fades with increased sun and fertility so definitely plant it in bony soil. Zone 3-9. WV. ecotype.
