Part to full shade; Average to dry soil; A perennial lettuce! This plant grows in light shade in dry woodlands. It has an evergreen crown from which a 5-6' tall stalk topped with blue chicory-like flowers will emerge in mid to late summer. The leaves and young stalk are edible when cooked but are bitter like endive. Attractive to bees. Blooms August-September; Zone 3-9; WV ecotype
