Liatris scariosa var. novae-angliae (New England Blazingstar)

This is the only Blazingstar native to New England. It is similar to Liatris scariosa var. scariosa except for its more northern distribution and preference for sandy soils. It grows about 3-4 feet tall and sports loads of button-like pink/purple flowers that are much loved by butterflies. Typically this plant is found in sandy plains, clearings and dry barrens. Adaptable to the garden if given plenty of sunlight and well-drained soil. Flowering occurs from August to September. Zone 4-7. NY ecotype.
