Liatris turgida (Turgid Blazingstar)

9.00

Liatris turgida is a rather uncommon little plant that is closely related to the endangered Liatris helleri. It grows here and there in dry shaley woodlands and road-cuts (commonly in shale barrens) throughout the central Appalachians. Thin wispy and delicate this plant must have good drainage and low fertility to be happy. Grows 1-2 feet tall. Small, pink-purple, button-like flower heads appear August-September. Zone 6-7; VA/WV ecotypes.
