Small Woodland Sunflower is a variable plant often freely hybridizing with other sunflowers in the wild. Plants typically have green-ebony stems, a loose leafy form and a tall stature up to 6 feet. Flowers are typically less than 1 inch across and some less than 1/2 inch. It grows in dry stony woodlands, clearings, and edges but adapts readily to a dry semi-shady garden. Plants spread slowly through underground rhizomes. Yellow flowers bloom August through September. Zone 5-9. WV. ecotype. // Seed packet, about 30 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification.
