Comfortrood (Also called Pinelands Hibiscus) is an unusual native hibiscus from Southern Coastal wetlands. It can be found in sandy or peaty wetlands, bogs and river-edges in moist but sandy soil. Grows 3-6 feet tall and topped with numerous buttery-yellow flowers with a crimson eye. Very striking. The stems and seed pods are covered by irritating hairs so care is needed in handling the plant. It’s hardiness in northern climates is unknown. Nominally a zone 7-10 but zone 6 might be possible with protection. Let us know how it performs. Ecotype unknown. // Seed packet, about 20-30 seeds. Germination requirements: 60 days cold, moist stratification. However up to two years may be required for germination of dry-stored seeds.
