Ptelia trifoliata (Wafer Ash)

9.00

Sun to light shade; Average to dry soil; This small tree is not really an ash but is in the rutaceae family (Citrus) and is an important host for the Giant Swallowtail Butterfly. Growing between 15 and 20 feet tall it fits nicely into small gardens and under power lines. Greenish-yellow lightly scented flowers appear in June and are followed by thin wafer-like seeds. The leaves are glossy and trifoliate and appear much like poison ivy to the untrained eye. Zone 4-9; WV ecotype
