Silphium pinnatifidum (Tansy Rosinweed)

Tansy Rosinweed is a somewhat uncommon prairie plant found from Wisconsin to Alabama in cedar glades, barrens and other dry grasslands. Similar in many ways to Compass plant (Silphium laciniatum) is is somewhat shorter and stouter. Generally flowering stalks are 5-6' tall with a basal cluster of large slightly dissected leaves. A deep taproot allows the plant to survive the worst droughts. Full sun. Yellow sunflowers in July-August. OH ecotype.
