Spiranthes cernua var. odorata (Fragrant Ladies Tresses)

This small orchid is best in wet, boggy and acidic soils in part shade. Often grows on sandy wet soils near ponds or lakes or in shady peatlands. Also great in carnivorous plant gardens. The white flowers appear late in the season from September to November and reach from 8 to 12 inches tall. They are often quite fragrant, especially at night. The plant creeps around on shallow rhizomes as well as seeding itself heavily. Zone 5-9. DE ecotype.
