This small tree/shrub is a wonderful and unique addition to a garden in that it is one of the few plants to provide sound as the dried pods rattle noticeably in the winter winds. Plant them near a wall or door where they can be appreciated. The shrub grows about 10-15 feet tall and has white bell-like flowers in April-May followed by the papery pods. Can sucker a bit to form a colony. Easy to grow in average to dry soil in part shade. Zone 3-8. VA. ecotype.
