This is a small thicket-forming shrub that inhabits moist woodlands and stream-banks. Growing to 3 feet tall it spreads slowly by runners eventually forming large masses. Good for erosion control! Leaves are dissected and graceful looking while the interesting purple/yellow flowers that appear in April-May are...interesting. Zone 5-9. Unknown ecotype.
